Really enjoying this story - listening with the author narrating including passages in Native American language. A really beautiful coming of age story for a 15 year old.

I have been saving this and I will read anything she writes.

I wonder where this is going

Reminds of Elegance Du Herisson - the mix of everyday life in a small neighborhood with larger swath of human problems. Well written, delightful so far, with different characters who all have decisions they’re having to make.

Stating off cute with multiple POVs and a clearly clever octopus. One of the things I like as a reader: I can anticipate possibilities. Did this octopus have something to do with a murder? A disappearance? Will romance happen? Will happiness happen at someone? I’m down to find out.

Well that’s different.

Very heavy handed. At its best it shows the racism, but many passages aren’t at its best, so it’ll just shove it in your face then spell it out for you, etymology included.

When a man keeps anticipating a woman’s needs and repeatedly pursues her with said dreams, he has to die. Also that’s how we know it’s fiction.

Very well written, complexity, love the voice and modulations of the audio narrator.

It’s interesting to reflect on what’s working for me here and not. It feels to me like I needed this chiseled further so it’s more nuanced. Or maybe it’s just that the relentless experience of balance of power makes this a “too soon” read for me.
