Maggie Holmes
Maggie Holmes is starting Kalayla
I've just started this book on the recommendation of a co-worker. At first I thought that the author would have trouble keeping the first person "voices" distinctive, but she does a great job keeping the tone right for each of the three narrators. So far the story is intriguing as I try to figure out what are the issues each woman/girl is facing.

The poetry is wonderful. I wish I could help the salmon.

Maggie Holmes is starting Hope Against Darkness: The Transforming Vision of Saint Francis in an Age of Anxiety
Just read third chapter. Most of it is hogwash. He finally makes a little sense toward the end. Wish he would stop putting words in the gospels that aren't there.

Currently hating this. He says things without any examples or reasoning behind it. He describes liberal and conservative in strange and in my mind wrong ways. I'm reading this for a group or I wouldn't have gotten past chapter one. My most frequent comment in the margins is "gobblygook."

Maggie Holmes is starting Heart Fire (Celta's Heartmates, #13)
How did this get put on my list? Was it just because I checked it out through Amazon or was it because Goodreads took the information from my Kindle? Must check my settings.

Maggie Holmes is starting The Weight of Ink
This is going slower than I had hoped. But the story of the young Jewess scribe in 17th century London is fascinating as is the plight of the current day scholars. It makes me want to read Spinoza.

Oh, well. I couldn't resist. I started another Sean Duffy book. At least I'm reading this one.

I'm slowing down with this book. While the characters are interesting, this isn't a character driven book which is what I like about fantasy. The world is interesting in a way, but not as detailed as Sanderson, Hobb, or Martin. Why did it win an award?

It is all I can do to avoid getting the book and reading ahead, but I do like the narrators so I'm NOT...GOING..TO..DO..IT....
Besides I have another book in my bag to read.

This actually reads pretty quickly, probably because it does not have the angst of many fantasy books. The characters are seen from a distance rather than inside their heads. Good world building.

Maggie Holmes is starting The Wangs vs. the World
This started slow for me, but now I am enjoying it. Some of it reminds me of Carl Hiaasen with the black humor. Grace --the almost 17 year old -- is a hoot. The narrator, Nancy Wu, is doing a good job keeping the voices separate.

Two of my coworkers really liked this book. I have tried reading it and now tried listening to it and I can't get passed the writing. It is too descriptive without adding to the story.

Put aside until the book arrives. There is so much going on that I would rather read it than listen to it.

Really enjoyed the six essays I read. Our government should read this book.

Maggie Holmes is starting A Dedicated Man (Insepctor Banks, #2)
I'm on chapter 8 and this is incredibly slow going. There seem to be only 5 possible murderers and they have been interviewed at least 3 times each with no real clues as to who the bad person is. I really just want to read the book when Annie comes to the force. Oh, well.
