This is my all-time favorite book series. This is my fifth time reading the first book. I read it every time I hit the characters' ages (so I have read the second book three times, the third book two times, etc.) I read it every summer so I could grow up with the characters. And now the characters are 29, so it's time to read the series one last time; I never realized they are in MD, so it's extra special.

The description of the neighborhoods of NYC as a representation of tiers of friendship was so moving. The reflections on money and worthiness really hit home. Her life story is so compelling, just like it was in her last two memoirs. I am already riveted.

What was the black thing in Henry's eyes?? Is that how the shadow visits him? These chapter endings, I swear.

Also, the shadow is being nice?? He comforted her about the tree??? This is bad. When he finds out about Henry, he's going to get jealous! What is about to happen? Oh my gosh, this ending is about to be wild.

Sidenote, how could she plant the tree, but not make any other changes? Love it, but odd

Henryyyyy, oh my gosh T-T The descriptions about enoughness are pulling at my heart. The fire scene, the popcorn scene, and the job scene were wiiiiiiild. What a unique perspective. Like it might actually be a good thing that you're not enough to some people. I definitely need a hard copy, I keep wanting to capture the quotes and the foreshadowing is crazyyyy. 7 hours left I'm so nervous for the shadow's return.

She was telling Henry the truth and then it went to the next chapter and she was back in France, aaaaa. It's SO GOOD.

She writes really beautifully about the experiences of her friends and family in regards to their decisions to marry and have kids. Her family history is super interesting.

It feels like I'm reading her diary. It also feels like I'm watching a car crash in slow motion because of the next book. I see her in person next week to hear her talk about the new book, so I need to get up to speed with her life.

Now this is a good lesbian romance novel. I needed a break from the other book. The illustrations are gorgeous and it's got the right amount of romance and realism. I bought it in a breakfast cafe that doubles as an independent bookstore in D.C. called The Potter's House. The vibes are immaculate all around. 200/10 so far.

She has 100 more pages to convince me this book was what it was advertised to be. She has already lost a lot of potential with the restaurant hookup dude not even clashing with the restaurant bar tender lover :/ Also, it is 2/3 of the way through the "love story" and the "lovers" have hardly interacted. Like at all. And she has hardly focused on the second lover. But stay tuned, it could turn around.

Amanda, I was wrong, ch. 1+2 do not speak for the rest of the book. This book is delicious. One of the lesbians is currently in denial about her sexuality and is sleeping with the owner of the restaurant that the other woman she's supposed to fall in love with works at. It jumps back and forth in time, developing the characters sooo well. Also, their emotions are so messy and relatable. For right now, 100/10 stars ⭐
