I'd honestly never considered that extended emergency medical scenes could be something I'd find compelling (or a type of action scene that exists in the first place). Has Wick Welker carved his own lane here, or do I simply need to read more? We'll done, either way.

Just stopped and checked for sequels because I could easily read 2 or 3 books of this story.

Ohh, A Sci-fi mystery. I sometimes wonder if Turton would abandon the mystery part (not my favorite) and write straight up science fiction. But then again, I REALLY enjoyed Emma Newman's "Planetfall" series, and Alastair Reynolds uses mystery in his writing (see Chasm City).

I just wonder if Turton could stretch his legs more if he weren't encumbered by the confines of a mystery.

About halfway through, it feels like Tchaikovsky has simply rewritten his 2019 novel, "Cage of Souls" in a different setting.

Gobsmacked that this was published in 1988.

In that context, I can hear and appreciate the influence that he's had on writers like Alastair Reynolds.

Only 30min in and I'm absolutely flabbergasted that someone had to translate this from the Polish language into English
