it’s just getting better and better!!

when you think back on what happens, you don’t think of the exact events and details; the imagery of how Young describes a person or scene or memory is so sharp you view it as flashes of images. Miss MacIntosh herself becomes the briney air and the endless sea she gazed at daily.

EXCELLENT — Chapter 6 is long, superfluous and full of excellent imagery of this superficial girl and her desire to be young, horrified of the prospect that her own baby - the one she’s giving birth to - will be younger than her, sequestering her youth away. Only like 1/3rd through Chpt. 6 lol

literally just in the beginning of this incredible project, and i can’t wait to have this book in my possession to constantly look back on for my life. YAY

so tags stroke of genius and complete alienation from her body is manifesting in cancer and illness and she STILL found a way to write about what illness means to society at large, ignoring her own personal battle. what a fucking person

this is awesome — more parts of sontags mistakes and ideas are blending into quite the life

i would rewrite everything i wrote in my last udate; scanton is becoming more external, realizing more to life than her own dismal days in the ward.

although her humility and homage to the state of people in psychiatric facilities is admirable and presents a deep empathy lacking in many institutions to this day, scanlons mind seems to still be aching for this presence of mental instability and order and it’s a foul taste in a sweet narrative

each day, new things are added to the lexicon of my mind and i fall ever more in love with clarice and her way of viewing the world

It's decent so far; I can't say I'm a fan of his character descriptions and interactions (my god are they boring) but the idealistic, dream-like descriptions of the city of Alexandria have me hooked.
