Jumping ten years ahead. Harlow Peck is now an ethereal looking ten year old and history is repeating itself with him being teased at the watering hole that all the kids go to, and he is helped by Carrie Stotlz, Jimmy Stotlz's daughter and they're falling in love.

The town of Hayforth is flooded intercut with Jack Lynches (angel/demon/alien) child being born by Tabitha Peck. Jimmy Stoltz shoots Jack Lynche & Handsome Green aids lynch against his will and Lynche orders him to kill himself after Lynche is recovered, but Green survives, and Lynche heads off to Spain.

Stories of small towns with secrets goes all the way back to at least Washington Irving and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (maybe farther) with every character seeming to have a lurking secret and every person seems suspicious. But all the characters in this book have strengths and weaknesses that aren't tropes, or red herrings, or obvious.

Jimmy Stoltz a deputy sherriff is on the case trying to track down what Jack Lynche has to do with the death of his friend and fellow police officer and the rape of "The Widow Peck." Is Jack Lynche an angel? A demon? Or something else. Very tautly written and have to say a page turner you don't want to put down.

Introduction to the small town of Hayfork, IA and already have a suicide, a mysterious stranger that may be an angel, demon or alien? But shockwaves are moving quickly through the town.

I've read a lot of Harlan Ellison and watched a lot of interviews by and with him and I thought I knew a lot about him but this book reveals a Harlan Ellison I didnt know.

Got the book yesterday. Sixth in the Alexander Southerland series. A concerned mother comes to Southerland because her son is getting up in the middle of the night and leaving, the problem is there's no way out of his bedroom, and he can't get out of the apartment without making noise, so how is he doing it? How is this going to relate to a bigger mystery? We're going to find out!

July 3rd is the 50th anniversary of Jim Morrison's death. In remembrance I've published the final version of Dawn's Hwy at Medium https://jimcherry.medium.com/dawns-hw... It is part of my short story collection The Lion Communique, hopefully coming in 2022.

An American Prayer. This should put Jim Morrison in the category of poet. An American Prayer is Morrison's Howl! or The Wasteland. & probably as the most important poet of his generation.

Reading through The Lords & The New Creatures section you can forget how well read Morrison was. You can find references to Greek mythology (of course), film theory and the Bible, and not just everyday pedestrian references but not so well known anecdotes. Kind of makes you wonder abt his line from As I Look Back "I rebelled against church, after phases of fervor" doesn't it?

Recvd this big, beautiful book today. I was worried that it would have a lot of material I already have, but this book expands upon the work already released, unedited versions of previously released poems are here, And his is purview is expanded there's so much new here, and it's fascinating! More than makes the case of Morrison being an artist/writer/poet.

A fluid use of words, complex yet natural forms. Two characters Edgewater and Roosterfish are on journeys, the journey as a vehicle of sel-discovery. Could this be an heir to Kerouac?

I've been inactive for awhile but when you find a great book you want to get the word out! This is a book that readers will love, it is thick with imagery, and a compelling story. A sample: "In the sun the car seemed to be warping up out of the blacktop road itself, swift and gleaming and shifting through transient stages as if it had not assumed its true form."

Reviewing at request of my publisher, but still my honest opinion. So far interesting read on the start of rock and roll early years, from the British rock scene.

The author walked away from $150,000 movie deal (director rewrite until unrecognizable) and self-published as a novel. Not my usual cup of tea, but the author gave up a lot for this story.

Catching up on the Dave Fisher storyline. Looks like he's in the process of moving to San Francisco (1968). He's found a singer/songwriter with problems and recorded him and producing Sallie Rachel 2nd album. This story seems more interesting than the Cole storyline, maybe because this isn't as filled out yet, more mystery as to what happens with it.

Alex and Cole join The Other Side, a band that beat them at the battle of the bands, meet girlfriends in freshman year of H.S. Cole serious about Madelyn. Alex's sister Susan, who Cole has a crush on gets unhappily married over Christmas in Mexico. 1968 looms ahead.

Cole & Alex go to San Francisco June of 67, Summer of Love! Alex goes native digging the scene open to the experience, but Alex cling to a more traditional model, will he turn out like his father after all?

Cole goes with Alex's family to Mexico for Christmas 66, a lot of mention of food (made me hungry!), gets a guitar, Cole and Alex an assignation with a couple of college girls and Cole feels guilty. Upon return to U.S. Cole and Alex's band have a gig at teenage nightclub, Cole hits on his girlfriends best friend.

Cole and Alex, getting the band together, a little tribulation, bigger conflict between Cole and his father.

The plot lines starting to pick-up and get interesting Dave Fisher discovers band tries to get his bosses at Columbia records to record and let him produce them. Cole sent to work on oil derrick for the summer meets Corrina, who sounds pretty hot.

Got my limited edition 4/27, hand packed by Paige! At least 4 story lines starting up. Starts in 1965, Jeff Cole and Alex Montoya in Dallas, as Jeff discovers Dylan. Hard to see where any one story line going, on page 44 out of 863, a long way to go! The writing seems smooth, effortless, elegant.

A big twist near the end that wasn't in the movie. Hope to finish today, have a review by Sunday, and maybe a book vs. movie review soon after???

Stand-off with the bandits ends, and the partners have finished with the mining and are about to try and get "the goods" to the assayers office. BUT first! Another story (allegory?) from Howard about the dangers in front of them. Very archaically structured, Traven in a chapter begin recaps what happened in previous chapter.

OK, got 3 books going at one time! Got this yesterday got right into it because of the encomiums for Bolano. Jan and Remo get to Mexico City and start tackling a literary life from two different perspectives Jan, sits in an apartment writing letters to science fiction writes, and Remo goes out and joins a literary club. Interesting read so far!

Half-way! The geologist makes a case why the trio should tie in with him, because they haven't hit the main vein of gold that's nearby. Those discussions are interrupted by the appearance of the bandits and an unnecessary chapter on the history of the bandits which is actually more rhetoric on the history of the catholic church's influence and governments complicity in oppressing the Mexican people.
