The writing style is difficult, making you go slow. But well worth the slow wade. The ironical commentary of the author slowly gets to you as you get engrossed in the tale. This is a book where the reader and author stand apart and are onlookers upon the events unfolding with protagonist. Not engrossed because of relating with them but instead with amused but critical interest, that slowly turns into disinterest.

A delightfully humorous beginning - written in the 90s, I wish I had read it when I went to England in the late 90s. A great beginning.
