…and I was realizing that anytime I wanted to visit Denise in my mind, I would be looking at her and thinking: you’re going to die soon, and I wouldn’t want to see her anymore.

My memories of Denise made me feel like I was keeping a terrible secret from her.

On Chapter 7 pm (2 hours in), and this is reading like true crime. I’m sucked in and feel absolutely feminist rage at the shit treatment these women received right after the horrific event on up through a few hours in. I want to yell at LE and take care of the girls my damn self.

This was a fun time! Wow! This author is one of my new favorites!

(Fun fact: priapism sounds an awfully lot like a certain character with a ridonkulously large p*nis. Ha, who knew? 💫)

d) WANT MYTHOLOGY TO BE MODERN, TO BE RELATABLE, which the author is doing so f*cking beautifully with references to movies, etc.
(Her explanation of Mighty Aphrodite makes me want to actually watch a Woody Allen film, which has NEVER happened. He disgusts me too much.)

This is THE BEST mythology read/listen if you’re:

a) bored with the literature of old stories and old names (which I personally love)
b) WANT TO ENJOY THE FEMALE GAZE INSTEAD OF THE MALE GAZE
c) enjoy smirking/humorous writing
