I read it in a day, so…that should give you a clue as to how much I loved it…which was a lot. Mind fucks, body horror, the general horror of human evil, dread, despair, etc.

God I fucking hate Steph. I can’t wait to be done with this book. I love the story itself and it’s absolutely heartbreaking in multiple places, but her absolute refusal to be any better despite complete self awareness is infuriating. Her self pity is almost too much to bear. I’m determined to finish this thing in hopes she gets better but I’d never recommend it. I hate it lol

I fucking hated it and couldn’t finish it. There were so many little gems that I absolutely loved, but the narration just came off…idk…kind of elitist? That’s the closest word I can think of. I just couldn’t get past the narrator’s sense of…specialness and being superior to everyone else because he had some supposed enlightenment and a “special visit.” I groaned more than I oo’d and ahh’d.

Very disturbing but also beautiful. I’ve cried a lot. Not sure I’ll be able to make it through the movie. I love these characters. (Except Beloved lol.) I want to be Denver’s friend.

Very academic. Insightful and fascinating, but this might be something I pull off the shelf from time to time to read one or two essays and then return to it later.
