Classic trope of group party with different styles of personalities. Though the main character Lee is more like the weird introvert that normally everyone is suspicious about. British language confuses me

Meh, absolute slog trying to read this. Characters are cookie cutter.

Will finish tomorrow. Been a great reread. Patterson’s word choices are a little unnerving. Granted this book is 32 years old, I don’t recall this many derogatory words used.

Loving the book. It’s dark, mysterious and just loving real-world references

Struggling with the pacing of the book. Hard to tell who the protagonist is and what the plot is as well. Multi-character first person POV is good but the events and situations are very confusing.

I like the idea of a hierarchy of vampires based on what blood they drink as well as a social system but the book is all over the place. In danger of a DNF

Very impressed with this book. Didn’t know about how Edgewood MD had a serial killer. Especially considering it’s my home county. Very detailed and informative although the author does fanboy sometimes over his childhood and the events.

Definitely understanding more and just the subtleties that Maas incorporates in the writing. It’s still such a slow start, probably 50 pages longer than needs to be but I definitely missed on what Feyre and Nesta’s conversation actually represented and how much a long game Amarantha plays.1

Second time reading this book after about 2 years. I’m reading with a more trained eye on the nuance and writing versus just trying to understand the plot.

My goal is to focus on the places where I got tripped up (specifically the back half) and use context clues!

Utterly fabulous, I love seeing the slow burn of friendship beginning between Harrow and Gideon. I love that I can’t figure out who’s friend and who is foe in this book either.

I have not been able to put this book down. I still don’t know the responsibilities of each house however, the symbiotic relationship of Gideon and Harris has me so invested. I love that this is now a mystery and the language and word choice is so good. I have had to at least pause and look up 20-25 different words!

I have never encountered characters who loathe each other more. Each time I get an answer 6 more questions arise.

In: Gideon doing everything possible to piss people off and Harrow pushing her agenda through ambiguity

Out: The necessity to mention Harrow playing and praying with the knuckles every other paragraph.

I am so confused, there’s a key to the 9 Houses but most of the names are Latin. On top of that, there’s no explanation of what exactly is going on or how the houses/story comes to be. I’m hoping this gets explained later on or have to do some research for context. The book is heavily worded, but there are brief tête-à-têtes between Harrow and Gideon I find extremely amusing.
