I am really intrigued of this audio adaptation by Robyn Ahern of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It has an amazing voice cast with Ella Purnell and Jonathan Bailey for the main leads, spooky ambience music and vivid audio effects!

I love the world-building, it’s very nostalgic to a lot of classic fantasy. The dwarves council really reminded me of the earthens in World of Warcraft: the war within, which was a happy surprise and I noticed that the women on the council was the majority, wasn’t treated with sexism or fell into one stereotype of being more masculine or feminine which a really appreciated!

At 3.4x speed I have about 1 hour left. I don’t think this book is for me, this dark satirical litfic, but neither do I think it delivers what the premise of the book promise. So I don’t see what the raving review are about…

Her husband is awful and out of line but he feels just like a caricature of a evil controlling husband. We never get to know more about her previous mental health issues but it’s constantly mentioned, just as a trauma-dump, and feels just like what this book is trying to make satire out of: capitalizing someone’s suffering. In this case domestic abuse. And asking the question who gets to tell this story?

This is just depressing. Described as funny but there is no humor in this book. Just showing the bleakest, grittiest and most negative and disgusting worldview of modern humanity and making you question if there is a single likable person in these character’s world.

Currently listening to the audiobook but so far I hate it. Similar to Yesteryear the characters are all unlikable, they’re meant to be unlikable, but it’s killing my motivation. I see the commentary being made but when the whole story revolves around utterly unbearable people making stupid decisions I just want to leaving their dumpster fire to themselves. Nothing is motivation me to watch that shit show.

The pace is starting to slag and the characters annoy me a bit, especially him, he’s giving me the ick right now.

…how is it so long?
I’m having a fun time, yes, but it’s 25h:36min!? I’m listening at 3x because it’s not that serious, it’s a fun mystery-ish dark urban fantasy, but it’s not the best writing or the best plot. I’ve just started Cassandra Clare’s books but if you liked the Shadowhunter tv-show I think you would like this. A lot of paranormal beings and very bingeable.

Just finished chapter 12 and after that chapter I’m so intrigued! This is giving epic fantasy vibes in the best way! I mean the chapter title of chapter 11: an unexpected journey, and the myths about dragon riders, it’s really giving the hobbit + Eragon.

Sometimes there are lines that I really relate to but overall I don’t know how I feel about the story, nothing is really driving it

I like the concept of the book, of the reality of these survival shows + the dystopian setting, but I’m not really buying the romance… it feels unnecessary to tell this story

Not really hooked yet but I love that they did the little extra with the audiobook by actually singing with music and all, and I’ve heard there are actually some original songs

I have less than 30 min left of the audiobook and I just want to keep listening but I fear a plot-twist coming but the next book isn’t out yet 😭

I’m really starting to like this one! I just picked it up for witchy small town autumn vibes and didn’t think much else about it, expecting it to be a simple and fast-paced read, and it delivers that exactly that but I’m also really intrigued in the mystery about the curse and really enjoying the vibes of the book together with a pumpkin latte 😊☕️

I’m loving this book! But I have to study and I can’t listen to audiobook at the same time 😭
