Maybe I'm just over almost all traditional historical romance at this point in my life but I hate this? And I'm not even to the apparent rape scene. Why am I reading this again? Might have to DNF soon, but I have high hopes that Shonda made them fix all this shit and I'll actually be able to enjoy the Netflix series. *fingers crossed*

Twenty five percent in and it feels like nothing has happened, and not in the fun, slice-of-life kind of way.
Aaaaah. Just came on Goodreads to take a look and was NOT aware this was Christian Fiction. Probably not going to be for me, but I'm moving through it quick so I might keep going? May DNF it later though...

The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek
Not even 40 pages in, and our heroine has already been raped, beaten, and sexually assaulted by two different men. I don't want fiction to pretend that women are never victims, because that's not realistic. But it's TOO prevalent for me, especially used as lazy "growth" writing. I've been looking forward to this book for quite a while, but if things don't turn around, I'mma have to dnf this one.

If there were a dude who winked this much, I would know that he was a serial killer and move far away.

"But he was coming to realize that he had shattered more than her reserve. Something inside himself had changed, too. He felt a sudden, desperate need to turn back the clock. Push her, force her, into acknowledging Alaric, rather than Lord Wilde."
Yikes. I understand the intention, but that word choice is not my favourite. Everything about this one is rubbing me the wrong way. And I was pretty raw already.

I love Eloisa James, and maybe it's the current climate and my general frustration with men and their inability to understand the word no, but I just can't with this one. Literally ALL the heroine has done is tell this dude to stop touching her and stop making inappropriate comments. Her internal dialogue is intrigued, but he doesn't know that. Going to try for 50 more pages, and then I'm going to throw in the towel.

I've been thinking about this a lot recently, so I wrote about why I "overanalyze" books in this extensive blog post.

I forgot Beasts Made of NIght at work (I had 40 pages left!?!?!?!) so I started They Can't Kill Us Until They Kill Us, which is overdue at the library but I'm not returning it until I finish it because I've heard it's essential reading.

Well, I can't include one of my predictions because I can't use a spoiler tag in a status update, but there's a thing that Hideo has told Emika that I think is a lie... just wanted to go on the record that I might maybe be predicting it. Or I could be completely wrong. But we shall see.
Also, this book is AMAZEBALLS.

I got about...one chapter in? And couldn't handle the "could of, would of, should of." That's actually not what any of those phrases are; in fact, they don't make logical sense that way, as opposed to the correct versions using the verb "have."
I'm going to give this one another try, but not sure how much more of that nonsense I can take, on top of what seem to be some potentially offensive stereotypes.
