about to give it 2 stars then realized my copy is missing the last 18 chapters

This is the (very toned down) premise of Jean Baudrillard's "Simulacrum and Simulacra" which inspired the Matrix and I was so disappointed that it was my first thought that I had to add it to the review.

he just said his appendix burst, he went into a book store and saw some random book saying doctors shouldn’t take out your organs, and he proceeded to not have potentially life saving surgery. i mean i guess it worked out for him but this feels like…not great advice
