Simultaneously trying to find things to like about this while also trying to pinpoint what I don't like. Other than the fact it's a historical fiction mystery - two of my least favourite genres. How do you tell someone nicely that you are bored by a book they like?

This is a complete wildcard. I asked my husband to pick my next book and he chose this. Didn't realise it was the third in a series and I don't know if he realises that either. The writing is so-so, characters not grabbing me so far. We'll see how it goes.

Seems pretty realistic that, even with the world imperilled, teenagers will teenager at each other given the slightest opportunity :)

That point when you realise you should have DNF'd but sunk cost says you have to finish now

At this point reading more for completionism than pleasure. It's nice enough but I feel like either there's some hidden meaning I'm not getting or it's just a slightly farcical story with no real depth.
