Had to stop reading this.

Really interesting subject but very unlikeable narrator. Thought he would challenge the perception of surgeons but no, just reinforcing them. Self important & grandiose, he speaks of patients dismissively and even the ones he says he cared especially about you can't quite believe him.

Reading for genre challenge this month but not getting on well with it so far.

Too many characters. Repetition of particular words eg. "Rhuemy" "sapphic"

Not getting on very well with this. I have lived everything I have read of his so far, but that is all his work that was written much later.

Books like this make me wish I had a policy for not finishing books. I hate not finishing books but don't think I can bring myself to leave it.

I like the complexity of the prose but dislike the narrator intensely. That's the point though, so I'm undecided so far. The first of Murdoch's books I have read so not sure what her typical style is.

I was really enjoying this at first but now I am losing steam.

Beautiful book, love the interwoven narratives & the richness of the footnotes. The theme of time passing & moments being lost is something I have been thinking about a lot recently & this book is a good exploration of it.

Really struggling with this, but hate not finishing books
