Huh, "Red Heifer" doesn't appear once in the index.

The chapters have been hit or missed so far, but I really enjoyed the chapter on happiness:

Reading this chapter on the development on historiography, I really wish I had the tools to understand what they're talking about. But alas, 4 years of "history" classes gave me no such foundation. Alright, im done complaining.

Chapter 17 was POWERFUL!!!

Just finished part 1, which really should have been titled "Eisogesis and Liberation Theology"

I'm sure there's someone out there who finds and enumeration of the genres of monastic letters interesting. Unfortunately, it is not I.

The monastic meditatio consists of an oral and audible (even if whispered) reading and memorizing of the sacred page. This "repeated mastication of the divine words" inscribes them on the body and the soul as a sort of spiritual nutrition. (78)

After spending four years of college primarily applying my intellect to the Christian faith, it's truly nurturing to my soul to read about monks whose sole pursuit was the practice of faith unto eternal life. I have a lot to learn from them.
