A 4.5 star read, I’d say. I know one of the big criticisms of this book is that it can read like a textbook sometimes. But as someone who likes to learn about history but shies away from nonfiction, its mix of exacting historic accounting and fictional drama really worked for me. Especially since it covered a corner of South American and Spanish history I knew little about previously.

“I’m really enjoying Wolf Hall,” I say.

“Oh, is it picking up?” She says.

“No. But it’s good!”

Highly recommend listening to at least a bit of an audiobook to get a sense of the rhythm of the writing. After that, it’s fairly easy to follow on your own.

I have high hopes after the first few pages
