I remember reading this many moons ago and being surprised it wasn’t more well known. Found a copy on a free community shelf and thought it was time to revisit a good old necromancy adventure!

Reading the 2016 edition. The story is of course a classic and I’m enjoying revisiting it overall. However, some parts seem different to how I remember, like odd references to brands like Ovaltine and Bovril, or sentences that seem out of place with the flow of the paragraph. I wonder if these were some of the controversial rewrites made recently.

Reading the version with a preface written by the author as an older man - interesting reflection at the start on his younger writings.
