I've never been a fan of lore dumps in the middle of books. I like how the backstory is unraveled across the course of the book. I'm not saying that doesn't happen, but I feel like Paul just sitting there with Annie's scrapbook of murders(?) was slightly underwhelming. It was exciting learning about her past, but I think it could have been done better. Didn't hate it though.

It being revealed Annie is not only a murderer, but a serial killer(?) shocked me. The fact that she was a nurse, kill these patients because they were weak in her eyes. Paul comparing them to the rat in the trap just makes it so much worse. The metaphor goes full circle, because like the rat, Annie murdered them. "Poor, poor creatures"

also I think the rat caught in the trap is an allegory for Paul. And how she views him as something subhuman. Her pet. And how she is keeping him alive, yet she could, at any moment, crush him with her bare fist and lick the blood off her fingers. Like the rat.

Paul is getting comfortable. He doesn't seem to fear Annie as much as he did. I have a bad feeling about what's to happen. Based on everything I've heard about this book, the worst has yet to come.

Anyway, I'm switching between the audiobook version and the book version. So I'm probably farther in than 49%.

Finished book 1-3.
Book 1: Odysseus' home. Telemachus and Peneolpe are left behind in his absence. Dealing with suitors who wish for the lady's hand. Telemachus is distraught, Athena speak to him.
Book 2: Telemachus confronts the suitors. He prepares to sail and find his father.
Book 3: Telemachus and Athena (disguised) talk with Nestor, an old friend of Odysseus.

Paul is likely projecting while writing "Misery Returns". Maybe he wishes someone would notice that his "death" (if he is even considered dead) doesn't add up and come dig him up from his grave. Or find his car, buried in the snow. Anyway, pray for this man, cause Annie will never be satisfied with whatever he writes.

It's cruel if Annie is a nurse. Then she knows what she's doing to him. How much he is suffering.

Picked this up from the library bc it was in the Pride section. I believe there's a lesbian romance on the side. I read a little bit of it, seems pretty interesting.

Did I ever want to read Stephen King describing periods and the like? Nope. But so far, I'm liking this book. I just wonder how Carries mom turned out the way she did. We've gotten the persepctive of her mother and step-father but thats about it. What kind of cult did she join?

I'm rewatching ATLA while reading this, and the difference between Kyoshi and Aang is crazy lol
