Damn I never DNF a book on page ONE but seriously that was cringy af. Nope absolutely not. Not even a little.

Yeah it’s not for me atm I thought it was going to be more than a murder mystery haunted motel and that’s just not what I’m looking for rn.

Ok so I thought there was no infanticide but Jodi clearly murdered Zefy…not cool.

I know that it’s probably some entity (the little girl imaginary friend) but I can honestly say this is what I’d imagine postpartum psychosis to feel like.

Prediction: her mother has not been there with her and never showed up. I just cannot believe her 70yo mother has spontaneously started lactating. This truly is a postpartum horror story

Really surprised by how much I love this book

A lot of biblical references, super interesting story though.

Barely started and I feel like this book was plucked from my freshly postpartum brain. This is wonderful and I feel like the perfectly relatable horror story for a new mother during October-ish season.

I’m actually enjoying this book more than I thought I would. It’s very Cinderella coded and I’m always a sucker for a good classic retelling. Only qualm is the metaphor of holding a lot of milk/engorgement being akin to hold your pee lmfao it’s not.

Ok I get it the writing is good, there’s some amazing prose especially towards the end. And there’s most certainly some metaphoric self acceptance message and certainly deeper meaning within much of the symbolism, BUT I couldn’t care less. The author literally made me hate everyone and then expected me to care.

Ok I didn’t see the cult coming, but I will say I pegged her being the serial killer reincarnated.

Do people actually like this book? I wouldn’t even call this book horror. It feels like a psychological menopause induced fever dream where some psycho old bat starts killing everyone and everything, too selfishly wrapped up in her own messed up mind to realize what she’s been doing.

The self deprecation and insults are getting tiresome. I feel like everyone in this book is a bully besides Elenor and the nurse whatever her name is

Calling it now this crazy bitch Mary is gonna kill the poor Elenor girl. 🙄Obviously she was going to kill the “demon dog” in NY, saw that one coming a mile away as soon as the barking was mentioned.

Perfect book to fall asleep to. Certainly not scary, pretty depressing, but definitely not scary.

So happy she’s exposed her father for the type of man he truly was.

I really wish after Cleo’s pos father burned her annotated copy of her mother’s book she had rescues Daphne’s annotated version from the attic. It would have been a beautiful justice not just for herself to reclaim a piece of her mother but also for her sister who was the only one to not read their mother’s book.
