Cautiously optimistic about this book

Either this is a translation or written for middle schoolers (both are probably correct) because my god is the grammar/writing basic. I’m losing my mind lowkey

Great book so far; the magic system is quintessentially R.F. kuang and I love the Chinese elements woven into the story

My biggest takeaway that I did vaguely know about but has only been extrapolated on in this book…people not only KNEW that how the settlers behaved towards non-whites was wrong but were AGAST and filed formal complaints about it. But the Federal Government just ignored them because it was advantageous to the nation…

This intro was so deviously good. My pre-established beliefs about America and its territories are only being strengthened and reinforced with knew factoids! Fun Fact: All modern American currency is based on the colonial Philippinian Peso NOT the other way around

Pro-tip for the author: don’t use the word “erect” during a sex club scene to describe a Tiger walking on two legs. Brings up the wrong imagery.

This is a classic “the story only takes place because of the characters involved” scenario and damn do I fw it. More of these toxic assholes please and thank you.

Bro what even is going on rn. Brandon Sanderson needs to stop visiting POVs in the future. Wdym something mentioned in the prologue doesn’t even happen until over 48% of the way in the book

So far Brandon Sanderson has done a great job picking up the torch that Robert Jordan left after his death, but I will comment that the POV switching every chapter sucks dick and balls. This series thrived by giving time to dwell on certain plots and, yes, timing was confusing at times, but if it was ever important Jordan would give universal timing markers to sync them up. We jump around too fast w so much happening

I can tell this book is so gas and excellent
