I love how this book doesn’t pick up where the last book had an excellent cliffhanger. Also the graphic description of A) two women’s period syncing and B) grown adult women being born (?) was NOT what I was expecting from this series.

I always find it funny when society has been locked in this technological deadlock for 2000 years to where they don’t understand the relics of the past age as if humanity didn’t go from the peak of the roman empire to ICBMs in 2000 years. I promise, the 300 year old person probably is gonna do a little bit more for society than sticking their finger up their butt for their whole life.

Diabolical that the payoff of the B plot of the last book is 15% of the way in this book

I appreciate how the author gives you a summary of the previous book in the first few chapters of the next one but…re-explaining fundamental knowledge of the series is really really tiring. You don’t need to make each book standalone when you’re writing a series like this

I think the big bad in this book (besides the series big bad) is going to be someone who turned to evil because she couldn’t get funding for her research so she had to become a professor. Most realistic villain I have ever seen.

I mean this in the nicest way possible but I’m dumbfounded that the author found a way to write all of this subterfuge and intrigue as boring as possible. I understand this is a historically retelling but embellish! Add some life! Don’t write “and thats when the mutiny plotting started” thats so boring ):

This book is so far really good. Definitely 100% completely and totally killed any and all desire in me to be a 1700’s sailor tho. People really just sent 2,000 men on a 7 month voyage and fully expected 60% of the to die horrible deaths for no pay and that was just…the norm. I will stay on dry land thank you very much!

I finally understand what the word “kafkaesque” means and yea. It deserves it own word. He’s a creative dude and I’m excited to finish it
