About 50% thru the audio version and not disappointed yet. The writer’s use of particular words really brings a whole new perspective to something we always feel like we have a good understanding of until someone enlightens us even more—I love the main character.

Wow…such an amazing book so far. It’s like drawing and finally truly understanding negative space. Not just a study on culture but a great murder mystery too.

Another James McBride at his best so far. The characters come off the page and drag you through a heart-wrenching story. The details are so rich it’s like eating tiramisu.

The parts about the serial killer are very interesting. But the building of the world fair parts are dragging. Big time. I wish I hadn’t started it.

Fascinating details and the writer’s empathy to the subject in general provides a lot of food for thought on many unanswerable questions.

I’m overcome. one of the most beautiful, heart wrenching stories. The dialect makes it a bit challenging, but if you consider it a tool to help you understand that we can never understand the pain the characters have experienced and what drives them, it makes it all the more tangible. I would feel like I missed out on something incredible in life if I had never read this. Thank you for such a gift.

This is going to take a bit of time because there are multiple terms you have to Google and determine the close enough meaning. More footnotes would have been helpful but the writer is weaving together a beautiful story so far, it is worth the effort.
