Anolik’s disdain for Didion doesn’t “reveal” Joan, it reveals herself.

“Now, I’m about to make a tricky point, so pay attention, Reader, follow the ball.”

Anolik is excruciating.

Pg 115: “Ertegun wasn’t the only figure on the Franklin Avenue scene besides Eve who was also on the Troubadour scene.”
Pg 116: “Ertegun, however, was the only figure on the Franklin Avenue scene besides Eve who was also a figure on the Troubadour scene.”

Make it make sense.

Lili Anolik is annoying, isn’t she? Melodramatic, sentimental, sensationalizing. And REPETITIVE. She makes so many assumptions about the reader and her subjects that all trust goes out the window within the first 50 pages.

She should have spent more time researching and less time inserting herself into the narrative.
