One of the better written non-fiction books I've come across - very interesting and informative chronological take on the start and spread of Islam. Learning about early Arabia, Muhammad (surprise - a real feminist given the context?), and just generally how Islam came to be.

Final stretch … I’m burning out slowly please pray for me that I finish this. It’s very good, but at this stage it’s tough not to feel like I already know how it’s gonna end. And that makes me lose motivation :(

It’s so good. I fear I might be jinxing this but we might have another favorite here. Slow paced, reflective, first person account of life from childhood to adulthood. Good dialogue, thinking… and a mystery I can’t wait to unravel in the end. Stay tuned for my final update 💖 but definitely RECOMMEND!

Father Zossima is dead (side character, questionmark?) and this are picking up splendidly. I might finally be on a roll with this book. Slow read, but veeeery enjoyable. Classics really dissect the human soul so well.

Trying my hands at this again, now that your girl has an ereader!

Very pleasant slow burn family drama so far. Excited to see how it unfolds. Currently, I’m at a gothic scene, where a few night after the groundkeepers lost their child, they hear the ghostly cry of a baby. In the middle of the night, they find a pregnant lady entered the house grounds to give birth to her child. Who impregnated her? Eerie!

I’m waiting for the profound part to hit me. It feels a little slow (repetitive) for now, but maybe that’s just me being impatient 💕

It’s good.

But what is up with these books packing in so much PLOT in so little pages? Like, can we chill? And these jumpy scenarios? Always traveling thru time, or now through realities? Feels like books made for TikTok brains.

Give me Levin in Anna Karenina mowing the grass for 300 pages please, and diving DEEP into how physical labor is a spiritual journey. That’s a pace I respect.

Listening to this as an audiobook, recommended by an Instagram mom personality I follow, Paige Connell. The book discussed the disproportionate burden of the family mental load that falls on women, and the myths that keep it alive. Are women just more organized than men, including high performing project manager men, or are men weaponizing their incompetence? To be discovered.

My kindle stopped working and i’m listening to this as an audiobook. So far, it’s good, but I might have to go back a few times to get the most of it. But quite brilliant thinking for whenever this was written (around the same time as the gospels I assume). A pity these ideas are not more widely spread.

Almost finished with this … doing the audiobook version was NOT a good idea… a lot of the heaviness of the plot feels cheesy and too in your face this way, but it might just be the reader’s dramatic voice. In any case … it’s not an enjoyable book for me, that much is clear.

Here’s a science fiction work after my liking. 40 women are trapped in a windowless prison for years now, with little recollection of their old lives, and absolutely no idea on why they’re here. They just recently found a way to track time, against the guards’ knowledge: one young girl kept count of her heartbeats and turns out their “days” aren’t even 24 hours. Hmmm…

Recently watched the movie adaptation on Netflix and got hooked. The book is great so far, cannot put it down. So interesting to read about Appalachian culture. In many ways, it feels quite similar to our part of the world too: honor, family, loyalty. An intriguing story on social mobility and the modern American Dream.

We listened to six hours of this during a weekend roadtrip and I’m exhausted and feels like we only made 5% progress. How?? Fourteen hours left. We’ve already hit climax, I’m not even remotely excited about what else will come up. I don’t like it so far, it’s too much in your face suffering, it’s lost all meaning for me now. Pain must be personal to the author, and this doesn’t feel like it at all.

I’m in my theologian girl era. Jokes aside, it’s so special to read Tolstoy breaking down the horrors of war/murder as a result of religion - and then try and come to terms with his religion. Quite the “heretic” read. But hey, the title really spoke to me! Quite quite quite enjoyable so far - nonfiction after my liking.

You know what? I don’t think I’m the optimal target audience for this book (I may be too old), but so far it’s enjoyable and quite the elevated teen romance novel if you ask me. Better than what we had back in my day - cough cough TWILIGHT

Oh gosh it's getting SO good. Can't put it down, but sadly a girl's gotta pace herself (and balance her commitments). Love it so far though, seriously people pick it up and read it - and ignore the first few chapters, they're a bit dull in comparison to the drama and emotions that follow later.
