I was really hoping to enjoy this, but the writing is incredibly mediocre. Most of its notoriety comes from its goriness and heavy topics. Not that it’s bad to write about those topics, but when you strip it away, it just becomes another YA fantasy book that people can gasp at, but then put down and never think about again.
