Ahhh, I am really getting into this now! The reunion of Ransom and Sera was great, he can't even shy away from how much he wants to protect her, even though they're supposed to be enemies right now.

Hmmm, so she is a saint, that got confirmed pretty quickly (which is good, better than dragging it out) but not knowing what kind of saint she is and what she needs to sacrifice is interesting.

I like Theo's willingness to go on an adventure back to the city! I am still not 100% back into the world and storyline, but I'm getting there.

I am still trying to get back into the story after reading the first book back in 2024 when it came out, but I have refreshed my memory and am enjoying this second book so far!

Dare I say? I think that the moment of passion was a little rushed and slightly early for me. I feel like we should've continued with the slow burn and maybe talk about what happened in Croatia before that happened.

The tension between Alex and Poppy is really intense, and we still haven't reached full breaking point where they say what happened two years ago!

The one bed cliché never gets old to me, but then go back on it with a shitty sofa bed? That's sure to make it more interesting down the line when they'll likely share it.

I'm guessing the event that happened to years ago is a drunken kiss of some sort, but Poppy and Alex have definitely liked each other more than friends for longer than they are making it out to be.

So far I'm enjoying the build up and the back and forth between different Summers. It's a good way to show that there's been an obvious shift in their friendship, without giving away what happened.

The forced conversation through text is giving me slight trauma, though, because I know how it feels to still want to talk to a boy, but get quite boring replies.

Holy shit am I getting goosebumps from the whole reveal of the second signet, to the bells ringing to warn of the incoming attack.

Ughh, knowing that the venin are really good at taking over major cities is a worry, they're getting more and more powerful.

I also hate that Vi has told others about Xaden turning venin, I think she shouldn't trust as much as she does. Rhi is also giving me a certain vibe which I don't like.

The Irids seem so pretty in my head, like jewel toned scales and long eyelashes like the dragon in Shrek.

I imagine Andarna like a little puppy when they mention her childlike excitement and the harness.

This has taken an interesting turn with the cake and realisation that not all is what it appears. Seems like the other kingdoms are out to kill off the team and maybe stop them from finding the Irids.

Totally didn't expect to meet Xaden's Mum in this book! I'm also surprised by how no one else in the squad seems to notice how easily agitated and different Xaden is acting.

Vi meeting others with hair like hers in Dunne makes me wonder if she's actually from there and not her parents' true daughter? Why does she seem so powerful compared to her siblings?

Everything seems to have gone to shit, but at least Vi is learning how to get better at making deals and bargains. I feel bad for Xaden though and his red eyes.

Well...Halden fucked up big time and I won't be surprised if he dies, but also, Courtlyn is extremely unlikeable and creepy.

What on Earth has Halden done to make the King want to keep him?

Vi's Dad not only writing her some books, but also leaving them in a shop in a place she usually wouldn't be able to visit?

Also, Xaden is acting very strange, which makes me wonder how he'll become when they return to the magical border and he gets power back?

Theophanie somehow knowing Violet's location at all times and being almost able to read her mind, tells me they may have a stronger/different connection than just lightning weilders. Hmm.

I don't remember Halden from either of the previous books, that may be because it's been a while since I read them, but hey, Violet's first love coming back and also likely being the password for her Dad's journal? I fear Xaden is going to get extremely jealous

I don't know what to think of that female venin who can also wield lightning and also made a little offer to Vi? It's so strange. Xaden becoming a professor also wasn't on my list of expectations, but I'll take it.

Because I took a break between Iron Flame and this book, it took me a few moments to get back into the story, but I'm once again really enjoying myself with these characters.

Xaden being able to sense the venin because of him becoming one is so sad, but also could become extremely useful throughout the rest of the book.

(Page 740) Holy moly, I love Andarna and her special little powers, especially the camouflage on the mountain, a Queen.

Let's hope she is the 7th dragon and they can get those wards back up ASAP, because that creepy Sage is giving me goosebumps again.

Baide and Barlowe...no surprises there, but I also believe that this has something to do with Varrish once again. Ugh.

(Page 662) I actually do feel sorry for their Mum in this moment, even if she is a coward. I'm pleased that she handed the journal over, though.

It makes me sad to think that a lot of people are about to die, and Melgreen could already see that ahead of time.

(Page 642) That was a really good 'twist' tense moment of arguing, add on the betrayal between Tairn and Sgaeyl that almost distracts them as well, oof.

The incoming battle is going to be even more intense because of all of the emotions that are yet to burst out between Xaden and Violet.

I really don't like the way the sage can get into Violet's dreams, and she doesn't seem to be catching on that, that is what is happening to her. It's not just a nightmare, they're in her head.

I do think delaying the wards from going up is also a terrible decision and obviously it's going to cause some problems because the venin are very close.

Cat is a very frustrating character, and she'll either become an ally and friend to Violet in the future, or she'll die because her jealously will get the best of her.

I must say that the throne scene was hot, but kind of random. I hope this series won't fall into the same pattern a lot of romantasy books do lately. Too much smut and not enough plot.

Ooh this is getting good. I also have a theory that the 'nightmares' Vi has been having since Resson are actually the sage getting into her head and being able to find where she is. They already know about her being beyond the wards, and the venin she went up against didn't seem to want to kill her, but take her as prisoner for the sage to likely use her/steal her powers.
