Today, while reading the book, I gained a better understanding of its characters.

I learned that the chess champion of the club, Sal, has a massive ego. Sal states in the book, "I don't have time for this," while pointing out all the "newbies" in the chess club.

I am on page 4 of Game of Kings. I chose this book over my interest in chess, and the Game of Kings book is filled with thrilling events from the chess world.

Landon is finished with Freedom Summer: The Savage Season of 1964 That Made Mississippi Burn and Made America a Democracy
last three chapters of Freedom Summer show the rising tension and violence in Mississippi as activists, especially the Freedom Riders and volunteers, work to register Black voters and fight segregation. The disappearance of three civil rights workers—James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner—becomes a key moment, highlighting the deadly risks people faced for standing up for equality.

Landon is on page 40 of 384 of Freedom Summer: The Savage Season of 1964 That Made Mississippi Burn and Made America a Democracy
Freedom Summer actually sets the degree for the depth of what’s to come back. As the narrative unfolds, we see the effective tension between the idealistic adolescents volunteers from the North and the harsh realities they face in Mississippi. The bravery of those young humans, who arrive inside the South with goals of changing the arena, contrasts sharply with the hostility and danger they quickly encounter.
