"Mentally ill" was used as a pejorative toward one of the main characters. I'm not impressed.

Not that I am an angel, but they're in a magical realm, ffs, I am sure there's something more colorful, fresh, and imaginative they could've said.

It's fine, it's cute, it's engaging. it was marketed to fans of Casey McQuiston, and I see why.... but the author is no Casey McQuiston.

I've enjoyed spending time with these characters. They'll stick with me for a long while.

The affectation is still annoying, but not enough so that I'm done woth it. It's a fairly short book.

the second-person style and conversation gimmick is going to get real old, real fast. i'm nowhere close to the turning point of the novel, and I'm not sure if I will stick with it.

It's fine, so far. Interesting stories. As I've said elsewhere, I feel acutely aware that this was written by a white woman as I'm reading it. There is a little discussion of her own privilege when talking about her journey toward childbearing. But, idk, I think it's missing an intersectionality piece to the conversation, and is poorer for it.

Some really satisfying twists and turns here.

I'm still not 'buying' the narrator, but the story has sucked me in.

I am loving this cast of characters, the central conflict, the love for Katherine Applegate ;) and the peeling back of layers as time goes on.

enjoying the premise & the writing

Okay, this is so off the rails and ridiculous. And yet, I keep reading.

The question is... can I suspend my disbelief long enough to enjoy the novel? Always a quandary when one reads fiction (even tangentially) related to their field of expertise. Despite that, the writing is engaging and the plot moves along at a rapid enough pace to keep my interest.

It's tough subject matter; I'm not fully bought in to the story, but it's well written enough.

creative nonfiction that could definitely use an editor and a sensitivity reader, to start. i began this book, having enjoyed baker's other books when i was younger. this does not hold up. will probably finish, though, being the optimist that i am.

I appreciate the author's voice, her unique journey, her documentation of a house and a family that she was a late arrival for. Thought-provoking.

it's a feel good romance with main characters that are interesting and worth rooting for. it's immersed in a time and place, allowing me as the reader to escape. so far, so good!

While the writing is average, the subject matter is interesting, and I enjoyed making the connections to the show.

Enjoying the different strands of the tale, and how they're hinting at intertwining. The cold world is so wintery, it makes me feel extra cold.

Really appreciate the sense of time and place, and the way it's taking me out of my own.
