Reading this as an agnostic person from a Christian family is a really interesting experience. It seems that in Dante's view, the best I could hope for is the "Vestibule" of hell, where uncommitted souls are sent to chase an ever moving standard. Oddly, this seems like a worse fate than the first circle, where the unbaptized and "virtuous pagans" that could not know Christ go. It seems sort of pleasant, actually.

For the first time in a while, I find myself wanting to read this book instead of doing something else. I'm still only getting started but I've found Kinch to be an incredibly likeable narrator. He's got that roguish charm in spades and the way he describes this often leaves me smiling.
