AELIN OF THE WILDFIRE HAS DONE IT AGAIN

Had to physically slow my reading down after the battle it felt like I was watching it on fast forward

So much to say here but…well I might be done with this book more quickly than I thought

Saw this in my bookshelf and realized I hadn’t added it. When the prince was chased by a group of squealing girls shirtless I decided I just couldn’t do it

AAAAAAAAAAAAA WE’RE STARTING

After a months-long endeavor to get to this point, after rereading all the first 7 books…the CHILLS I got when finally reading BRAND NEW WORDS

THIS IS MY WHITE WHALE

So great to finish out just this book once I finished EOS tandem read. I’m glad I did it so I didn’t lose steam!!

Final battle was somewhat anticlimactic compared to like the ENORMOUS BATTLE SCENES of book 5, but I loved that in the end, Yrene made it all possible. I got chills seeing the army that they’re bringing to Aelin’s aid

Kinda overwhelming number of tables but got some good tidbits

Couple things in here that would’ve been helpful when I was putting together all the income and expense statements for GENup the other night

“What if we go on, to more darkness and despair?”
“Then it is not the end.”
That those words brought him out of darkness, from 3 books ago, from a time when Aelin’s inner queen was just shining through, as he finally stopped hating her…

Also when Sartaq was sucked away out of Nesryn’s hands I almost passed away. What if in the end, Nesryn’s the one who raises the army?

“I’m going to call in old debts and promises. To raise an army of assassins and thieves and exiles and commoners.” And god damn DID SHE

SO MANY THOUGHTS. I got chills when the witches showed up. Lysandra is used in so many interesting ways. Knowing Maeve’s heritage from tandem read enhances this fight. Surprises to the final page

GAH Yrene/Chaol is the only enemies to lovers I enjoy!! They bring out the fire in each other because they both care so deeply and feel safe around the others to express themselves!! We love to see a man groveling especially when it leads to her bullying him into kissing her

They’re in the honeymoon stage now Sarah will inevitably rip them apart in some terrible way

This last battle kinda started feeling like the fourth season of an anime, where the characters are so overpowered it’s kinda unfair. I prefer the choreographed team battles — but I see this is laying the groundwork to Aelin burnout so I’ll be patient

ANSEL FINALLY RETURNS and wow I’ve almost finished the book

I found out while listening to the first chapter that I didn’t get back to valet in time and I in fact was locked out of my car. so I’ll forever associate this book with that now.

I appreciate that Grace is overcome not with fear upon encountering Rocky’s ship, but giddy scientific curiosity! And that he is consistently battling with grief for his fallen comrades. Both easier to express through his internal monologue than silent expressions in a movie

And all the flashbacks to decision-making with Stratt almost feels like bonus content

Sarah is making some interesting matchmaking decisions. My sweet Dorian—where did this crazy witch-lust come from??

The whole crew is generally getting more vicious which I don’t love, and there’s so many characters and deep lore, I’m struggling to track it all. what on earth does “Nameless is my price” mean?

SEA DRAGON BATTLE???? ARE YOU KIDDING?? I read and reread to fully appreciate the grandiosity and aesthetic. Very proud that I noticed Aelin laying the groundwork this time around

Also we finally got to the beach sex scene and I can’t believe she turned the sand to glass. Absolutely absurd scene but so much more fun now that I’m older

It’s 2:30am I’m so screwed

Excellent dungeon crawl / spider battle - 5 stars!

The tandem read commands that I now read the next 18 chapters of Empire of Storms, so we’re leaving Antica behind for now. Bye Chaol :(

You know what? If I’m going to be reading a school book cover to cover I AM going to count it in my total. If only to motivate myself

I have to admit it’s been my favorite assigned reading of the semester so far. I feel like I’m walking away with something useful

Finished Ch2: Account for Transactions

Only got in two chapters for this read, one Elide/Lorcan and one Aelin/Rowan. Enjoying the former dynamic immensely

I cannot BELIEVE how much of this book is left—with Tower of Dawn I’ve read the equivalent of a full book, but it really just is all rising rising rising action

“Thank you for tonight,” Chaol said, stifling what tried to leap off his tongue: I can’t take my eyes off you.

After seeing so many romances rise and fall again in this series, I don’t yet know how this one ends

So tickled by the variety of accents in this audiobook. And I appreciate that Stratf’s worldwide authority is well-emphasized.

And that Dr Grace fought for his astrophage not to prove he’s not a failure, but to save his kids. Interesting the way that they repositioned that scene to be at the beginning of the movie, so much meaning is lost

Can’t wait to see Chaol at the end of this book because I, like Yrene, am sick of his martyr complex (but he’s getting there!!)

“You will find, Rolfe, that one does not deal with Celaena Sardothien. One survives her.”

I read chapter 27 twice because I enjoyed it so much. How I missed Celaena

HOW did I not appreciate this book when I first read it?? My damaged boy Chaol is finally HEALING

But I almost threw my phone when he told her Skull’s Bay THE DRAMATIC IRONY

I tandem read the books for 5 full hours last week on the plane and read 350 pages on my phone. blissful

MANONS BETRAYAL?? They built to this for TWO AND A HALF BOOKS

Aelin’s temple takeover was so Dune coded (I must sway the nonbelievers)

Return of the pirate lord?? Especially with Celeana kicked back in his chair I giggled

The audiobook is SO GOOD it feels like he’s just talking to us!! I love being in his head, the way he discovers gravity and not being on Earth, and the flashbacks have so much more color

Tandem reading is crazy bc why are the transitions so strong between chapters in different books. It’s almost like she wrote them in parallel too

I was doubtful about the new setting but Antica is very pretty and fun

I feel like I’m far enough into the books now there’s really not much I can say to spoil. I don’t remember what’s next. Uncharted territory

So pissed at the lords of Terrasen. Darrow can go die in a hole

Doing the tandem read this time. I am NOT losing steam on Tower of Dawn like I did last time I read these books

Read this book in 1 day but I was very disappointed—writing was flat and uninspired. Lacked romantic tension and not even steamy!! And the pivotal “night we met” is never shown, only referenced by characters

Saving graces: Characters were consistent and good match, and story had good messages about friendship and recovery. Nevertheless I’m leaving this book in Hawaii and won’t pick up this author again

This was my favorite one yet—LEGENDARY fantasy battle sequence. SO satisfying. Every time I thought someone was doomed someone else swooped in.

I’m glad they had a moment to all be together before going their separate ways again :(
