okay so, starside is meant to be Alex Asters first adult romantasy and while idc if there is sex scenes in books, the fact that the main character basically says “yeah people don’t have time for sex because we’re all starving and dehydrated” makes it all the more stark when she’s like oh but this dude is hot. queen you’re like on the brink of death

no like i just kinda thought the trio would be a trio for ever

okay it’s not so bad though i’m kinda annoyed by how much alex aster does the “im so small woe is me” thing. why is her sword so big. it’s irrational

why am i reading ANOTHER Alex Aster book when I constantly criticise her writing? idk. I can’t stop. She genuinely has good ideas and the writing is good riiiiiiiiiiiight up until the romantic interest is around. then suddenly everyone is dumb and makes the worst choices ever. This is me trying to see if maybe the characters in Lightlark just suck

ngl i’m reading this on the spark notes website bc no where near me had a physical copy but these are great at just reaffirming what the play is saying and making sure you are understanding it

now to Ryland, the important part of that memory was that he’s there because he has the correct gene sequence and knowledge to operate the Hail Mary and potentially survive the trip, to ME the important information is that there is ANOTHER ship
or did I misinterpret that part ?? I may have misinterpreted that they would only launch the backup if the Hail Mary failed but why take that chance

the way this book immediately went in the opposite direction to what i expected

okay it does pick up some after the first 30% or so but it’s still a liiiiiitle bit of a slog

there’s a lot of words and i’m too tired to take them in

there’s a lot of talk ABOUT the history but not a lot of the history. Like the author talks a lot about its effects but not as much of what actually happened. idk maybe I assumed there’d be more of the history part

okay i just finished the first season of HBO’s rome and this is so reminiscent of the fall of Caesar

accidentally put 270 instead of 370 and just accepted i somehow had 35 pages and almost 40% of the book left

one hour later and 35 pages left, this book is getting 5 stars because single sitting books are always either one star or five and it’s definitely nowhere near a one

it might be midnight and i might have work in the morning but i also only have 106 pages left so like really

what options do i have

okay i’ve been reading on and off (mostly on) for about 5 hours now and im over half way through. Love a fantastic dark academia novel, it’s YA and it has an incredibly fast moving plot (a little too fast at points but it’s fine), and a good dose of academic rivalry
