I'm finding Elspeth to be a rather bland character, with her only redeeming quality to be the nightmare in her head. I don't find her perspective interesting and her relationships with other characters are underwhelming. Elspeth and Ravyn feel underdeveloped on purpose, like I'm supposed to be projecting a dream character or love interest onto them rather than delivering complexity.

Honestly I am really loving the narrators voice in the audiobook.

This book is so good. It's looking to be a 5 star if it continues the way it has started.

Don't love the "primitive" goat aliens, feels a little icky with how their culture is described. Also it makes me think back on the sister being called a "half breed" because she's half alien. I'm hoping that this is an intentional attempt at discussing racial stereotypes and biases but I'm not sure yet.

Why is it that every time he thinks about the woman he is supposed to be in love with, the only nice thing he has to say about her is that she's got a hot body?? Like girl you need to get over him because he's trash. And sir, please grow the fuck up.

Maybe I'm stereotyping but I think the MC has to be either more dickish for his choices to make sense or less dickish so his motivations make sense. Right now he's a guy who hurts people and isn't nice to people but I'm also supposed to be convinced he wants to be humanities savoir? It's not adding up, but it's early days. I might get my character development!

Ok so far all I can tell about this guy is that he's a whiny little bitch who is in "love" with a woman that he thinks nothing positive about and is definitely gonna betray. Not a strong start for a main character but I'm hoping that's just set up for his growth.
