Fantastic and close-up look at relationships between women from 16th century to the 20th. The occasional notes the author leaves on what she calls (in the 80s) "transsexuals" are fairly outdated and laughably misinformed- as a reader in the 21st century I found myself rolling my eyes at several sections.
