this book is making me angry

not my normal area of fiction, but a lot of interesting vignettes so far. i look forward to watching things unfold. i have a few ideas, but i have a hope that i’ll be surprised

reading for book club :) not much happening so far, but curious to see where it goes!!

past where i was, and kinda surprised i didn’t keep going, cause i am hooked at the moment! i guess nothing gets me out of a slump like a break does. i probably need to be better about going back and giving books a fair chance

glad i started from the beginning (i don’t think i’m quite caught up yet), cause i had forgotten quite a bit. having a lot of fun though :)

i’m finally getting back to this one after 6 months or more. wish i’d been able to before wind and truth, but better late than never! i figured i’d start from the beginning again, which is proving to have been a good plan.

there is such a mix of things in this book, but so many of them are things that really excite me, so it’s hard to find fault in that

i am very intrigued by the way beard is choosing to tell the story. i like the idea of starting from a well-known and well-documented period, and there are a lot of potential questions to look through the lens of. i’m not a *huge* fan of spending so much time listing questions, but i am excited at the prospect of seeing them answered!

glad to have the audiobook for this one :)

a pretty wild an unexpected turn in the last few chapters. i am very curious to see how this resolves, cause i thought it was going to look a lot different

it is wild how well the “formula” from the hunger games has been adapted to feel so fresh. there are so many lovable and amazing characters to latch onto, i am fully expecting to be a wreck by the end.

i adore suzanne collins but this one is cruel

i’m having a bit of trouble focusing on this one right now. i’m enjoying it, but every time i go to listen, my mind starts wandering. i’ll probably pick it back up after the will of the many.

finished part 2 a few days ago. i definitely enjoyed it quite a bit more than part 1. still not sure how i feel about Vis, and i think some of my dislike is a bit unfair, but oh well. there are enough intriguing threads to keep me invested, and i have a few theories about where things might go

i wish i had updated progress more recently than this, but oh well. this one is really fun so far :)

the magic system is *very* soft, but that makes it feel far more like an academic history, which i think it's meant to. the perspective hopping was a little jarring, mostly because i'm not used to exactly this style of narration, but it works well. so many very clear influences, i'm excited to see where this one goes

going through with a friend, so progress might be a bit inconsistent. greatly enjoying it so far! the cultural influences from rome in particular are very fun. i can’t say i love Vis so far, but he’s a decent storyteller at least. the prose tends to sneak up on me, painting vivid imagery when i’m not expecting it, and then slipping away for a while.

this one is going by so quickly! what a delight, though! i adore hoid (obviously), and the writing style feels familiar, but more free than some other sanderson, which is really fun :)

we are nearing the end, and things are heating to a boil! the tension and twisting are magnificent. three more chapters to go:)

book three has been building tension for so long, i think this kind of result was inevitable. i am bracing myself for the mental impact it is going to have on the characters, cause i do not see anything good coming from this. i guess we’ll have to see

i have been *awful* about logging progress with this. it feels like time has passed so quickly, but i was delighted to see how much book i have left! the linguistics, the magic, and the wonderful characters have my attention completely. i am loving the internal struggle between institutions with grand opportunities, and the desire to oppose harmful practices and ideas. such a relatable conflict, presented so well!

mmm vibes. a lot of this is so familiar, in such a comfortable and enticing way. certainly some strain, but so much hope and perseverance too.

loooooong chapter. but hooked me right from the start! it is *so* academia in vibe, and we’re not even in the academic part yet! the magic and the prose are pulling me in, and robin is such an interesting character, i am loving his perspective so far.

there are a lot of questions in this book. many i’ve even asked myself. i am very curious if and how they will answered.
