I'm about 25% in and it's... okay. I haven't read the first series, but that's not a big issue.

What's bugging me is the secret keeping. I'm not sure what about it I'm finding hard to accept, but if your family has this Big Ability, maybe you should tell your grandson about it, especially if his lack of information could harm him. Be an adult about this.

Okay, things have picked up a bit, but it's still dragging. The bad guy is cartoonish, there's been almost no contact between the love interests. So far, the most interesting question is if the poor princess (not the MC), will regain her mind and if her illness is connected to the evil warlock.

I might start skimming.

I'm in chapter 7. Does this ever pick up? I can see where I'd like the characters, if they were allowed to actually have dialogue or interact, but when every single conversation is stuck with long Internal Thought Pauses, I'm left wondering why the other person doesn't just wander off.
