pausing for now! i think this will be much better as an audiobook, so ill pick this up again when my libby hold is available.

absolutely scandalous things happening. i am delighted.

my latest audiobook! the narrator is okay so far, their spanish is really throwing me off but they have a nice cadence otherwise. this is an easily comprehendible listen, especially after my last one was like listening to a poem while i was in afternoon traffic.

okay i think i’m liking this book so far and it’s certainly keeping my attention. also i did have a dream i had the same affliction as Addie and it totally sucked so there’s that.

this audiobook narrator is great

started the audiobook for this for my car listening! first chapters are feeling a bit self-pitying (perhaps for good reason?) which was a tad eyeroll-worthy but alas i march on

first few pages i thought this might be a monster-loving book but i reread the premise and it seems to be no such luck

it may make sense since the MC Marra has spent most of her life as an (almost) nun but her awkward naïveté at 30 years old is still a bit tiresome. enjoying where this story is going though!

Hava has an interesting voice, where she is a bit of a rambler and drops a lot of exposition but it comes through as excitement. I like it right now, and hope it doesn’t become overbearing.

not to be that tfota enjoyer but cardan and jude really steal every scene theyre in and its been like. two so far. got me giggling every time they say something. also cardan’s relationship with his nephew is very cute

everything smells like a promise in this book, huh

can barely stand Sadie most of the time. she makes really immature annoying decisions and yet Jake is endlessly charmed? she stole his dog why is he happy about it!!

the writing is weak but i am enraptured by her shitty husband. need to know what kind of karma he gets

this book has felt slow for the first 50%. i've finally reached a pace where i can read it in reasonable bursts, but it really felt like i was trudging through too much exposition and a chemistry-less relationship between dara and nahri for that initial half.

this book has such a fun style (fiction with footnotes?!) and there's so much character and imagery in the writing. having a good time with this one so far (Opal is straight up the opposite of me so i'm having a lot of 'why are you doing thattttt' moments, but i enjoy that as well. MCs do not need to be perfect for me to like them!!)

chapter 2 and this book is already giving DNF vibes. we shall see how much more effort i can put in.

This book is compelling but predictable. I can’t tell if some of these things being described are meant to be surprising or something, but it all feels like it’s spelled out directly in front of me.

“Of course he was [left-handed]. The right hand would have been too ordinary for him.” ironic, funny, idk, this line gives such a gary sue quality to this character and it feels off-putting to a degree.

there are some timeskips between the primary sections of this book that i don’t realize have happened until Lilith shares some crazy experience, so that’s been a bit jarring at times

i am LOVING this so far. love how Butler writes Lillith, she feels very real and conflicted

libby lives in a prison of her own creation, her beef with nico is pointless and repetitive and mostly one-sided (or at the very least, too harmless for it to occupy 60% of her narrative)

nico is somehow the only character i look forward to reading about, though my general feeling is that all these characters act like theyre cooler than they are and it makes it a bit hard to read. also the style that this fight scene is in is not for me—overly descriptive to the point of distraction.

DAMN give ari a break!!!

this writing style really scratches an itch in my brain, it feels jumpy and natural and it just flows so well

such a fantastic book so far. i feel myself tearing up every few pages, so im excited to continue with it!

listening to an audio version and libby and nico seem insufferable so this is a fun first impression
