I was surprised that Erica was willing to spend time with Changez after the attacks. The timing was terrible for Changez flying home, and I expected him to be held at the airport after the agent’s rude response. I was happy for Changez and Erica during the celebration at his apartment after Erica got an agent. I am curious why the author keeps returning to the idea of the American spy and Changez.

I just read to page 85 and I am getting pulled in even deeper into this book because of how Changez reacted to the planes hitting the Twin Towers. I do not like how he says that seeing another countries misfortune brings him joy. And him saying he wanted something bad to happen to american
are both hints that Changez might be apart of the terrorist group that flew the planes into the towers.

I liked how the novel begins by setting up events that hint at what will happen after 9/11, especially through Changez’s relationship with Erica. I find it strange how Erica's relationship with Changez is a strong focus, and I wonder how their relationship will affect Changez’s view of America. I liked seeing him succeed at Underwood Samson, but I find it interesting how it seems his perspective changes.

I find it nice how Changez started getting to know Erica, especially when he was at dinner with her and her family, because it showed how he was trying to fit into American culture and feel accepted. I am predicting that the story is setting up this period as the peak of Changez’s career, before everything begins to fall apart for him after 9/11. How do you think Changez found a position at Samson Underwood?

I really liked this intro of learning about Changez's life and how he became successful while not being wealthy. I respect him because of him becoming successful, coming from not the best path of life. I enjoy how the in the first few pages the book does not give the American a voice as how americans didn't give them a voice after 9/11. I wonder if our classes theory of the american being a sky turns out to be true.

I am in shock after reading Frank killed himself because he seemed somewhat willing to be locked in the basement instead of being sent to the county jail. I also feel sad how much this pressure affected Wesley because now he is drinking more and sleep just trying to protect his family while doing his duty of a cop.

I feel uneasy now that Wesley, Gail, and David have received threats from people unhappy that Frank is locked up. Along with the threats, aggressive arguments are occurring, which makes me sad that David is learning how some people support helping Frank escape this situation, and how certain views can hurt the people you love.

I feel this story is in a tricky situation because Wesley did the right thing by locking Frank in the basement, but now Len is upset he would do that to his own family. I also feel less tension since Frank can’t hurt another Native girl, but Marie refusing treatment because of the assault—and Frank possibly killing her—brings the tension back.

I feel because this story is in somewhat of a pickle situation because yes Wesley did sort of the right thing by locking Frank up in his basement but now Len is very upset that Wesley would do that to his own family. I also feel less tension in the chapter because of Frank being finally put away not to touch another young girl.

Even after Wesley and Frank talk by the river,I still feel Wesley is dismissing the problem of his desires. I hope seeing Wesley’s dismissive behavior will push Frank to realize the seriousness of the situation and push Wesley to take Marie’s side.I feel strong antipathy because Wesley sides with Frank in this sexual assault case,making me even angrier knowing Frank could be a suspect in Marie Little Soldier’s death.

I am now worried because there is a paragraph about his calmness after killing a magpie. This worries me even more after he says he needed it to ease his mind. Another section that stunned me is when David gets a handgun to protect himself from coyotes and says kids in Montana have small arsenals for fun. This makes me feel uneasy because it seems dangerous for children to handle firearms.

I am in wonder why David wants to be grown up so much. Yes he says he wants to be included but I feel it is easy to know your place in a situation and if you should push to be a more mature person your not or stay completely out of it. I am questioning if Wesley is in denial and knows his brother really could have done those horrible things or if he really has no idea if his brother was capable of molesting.

I am in shock after reading what David’s uncle did to Marie Little Soldier, especially because he said it happened multiple times. This helps me understand why Marie did not want to see the doctor who was Frank. I am confused because David’s dad is having a hard time deciding whether to protect Frank or Marie because to me Marie is the obvious choice.

In those pages leading up to the 23 I first felt sympathetic because Marie did not want to see a doctor and she could not get proper care. Instead David’s mother took care of her which surprised me because she was a stern woman and hated sickness and wanted to protect her children from diseases by means necessary. The method was to sweat the illness out of her which I say is a stupid way of dealing with being sick.

Reading the first 13 pages made me curious about where the story was going. The calm town first feels peaceful, but as I read I felt the book would be much more interesting than I thought. I felt concerned for the main character’s family and their sick maid, and the parts about the mom holding a shotgun and the father begging her to help a boy made me even more curious since he doesn’t explain further.

Possum bring Cal to an old oak tree where he hides his valuables. This oak tree is safe from people stealing because only the GANG knows about it. This hiding spot is where anyone of the gang members can hide their valuables.

Its seems to me the school isn't the best place to keep valuables or the staff will take it. Possum brings Cal to an Old oak tree to climb on it then Possum shows Cal his secret hiding spot where he hides his valuables. They enjoy it alot because they have freedom too.

I was surprised by how less indian people and more "Negros" were going to a Indian boarding school. I understand Cal being Nerves to go to a night school far away from your dad never leaving his side before. I was also surprised when instead of punishment being in the guard house it was in a room in there're dormitory.

I like the part were the sherif and Pop make conversation. I felt bad for Cal he's never been far away from his dad and does not now when he is coming to get him. I also thought how the melody that Pop sang was cool because it calmed down the horses.I thought the part were Pop was saying all the sad stuff about the schools like they were killing us and beating us.

Just by hearing the characters talk about the mulligan I got hungry. I thought It was weird the Cal never heard about his family being Creek. I thought It was strange how Pop was going to let a 12 year old boy travel the rails alone and make it to the school. It scared me at the end were they heard gun shots.

I was surprised when Cal said he thought all indians have been killed off already. And was also flabbergasted when Cal didn't know that his pop and him are Creek Indian. I thought It was cool when some of the hobos that were hopping off did a roll or a fancy move when hopping off. it was funny when esom dart said he was supposed to hop off a state back.

It surprised me that talks about his mom. If my mom died I wound not talk about her so much. It also surprised me that pop was thinking about putting cal into a school. And the professor bringing a pan to fry bacon and potatoes on was crazy "The portable stove. little but big enough to fry whatever it is i'm smelling. Fried potatoes and bacon!"

I was surprised that they could easily hop on to a train and was surprised that the train was going slow enough for them to get on

Cal and his pop are walking on a road his dad talking about his war memories. I was surprised that his pop was in a war and was talking about that with his son. after pop was done talking they run into a red headed war veteran like pop with after a bit of talking the redhead offers dinner. I find It lucky how they find a nice guy that offer dinner.
