The idea that design is intuitive, clear and almost invisible. We use design to add flair but also provide information and feedback to users to facilitate communication between machines and humans. For example, in autonomous vehicles there needs to be a clear handoff between a car in self driving move vs non self driving mode. This is resolved with a change in lights rimming at the windshield.
