The author of this novel clearly knows nothing about mental health that couldn’t be gleaned from a batman movie.

Audrey Lynx is on page 151 of 544 of Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents
Evil asks little of the dominant caste other than to sit back and do nothing. All that it needs from bystanders is their silent complicity in the evil committed on their behalf, through a caste system will protect, and perhaps even reward, those who deign to join in the terror.

Audrey Lynx is on page 73 of 544 of Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents
We will never be able to see reality until we recognize that our beliefs about our world and ourselves are based on what we want them to be, who we need to see ourselves as, for our ego’s sake, and if ignoring what is. We explain away and justify objective facts and truth staring us in the face because we are afraid. But we are all a part of this system, we have all learned the rules, and our denial perpetuates it.

"You said you'd never get one."
"Come on, Rick! We don't do everything we said when we were small. Why shouldn't I have an AF?"

Uh oh.

Already a gratuitous rape in the first chapter. This in addition to an exploration of grief, self-blame, self-hatred and trauma? Unnecessary. Can we tell a different story to and about women yet? There's a reason this self-blame and worthless feelings are so many women characters stories. This MC is frustratingly passive and defeatist. It's well-written and realistic, but something I've seen too many times already.
