Maupassant id incredible. I never expected this book to be so funny (or include details like a bunch of grown men playing cup-and-ball and tag) but it does and it's hilarious. Also Maupassant is so good at writing self-absorbed sexist men that playfully pokes fun at the way they see women and the world. Like SO GOOD.

Still so good.

Terrific observations of other people and some very nice word-choices yessss let's gooo this book is off to a terrific start.

I can't believe the movie was based on a book. Am reading it and am loving its takedown of classism. Very well-crafted so far.

Eruzione is SO modest. Paraphrased quote: "I scored the most points ever in Boston University history. I couldn't believe it. My friend so-and-so was a much better hockey-player than me," etc. :)

In the first 18 pages I know I've found a new favorite book.

Thought this book much less well-written the first time I read it. I don't know how I could've possibly thought that (maybe the inexperience of youth). Now though, that first part was terrific.

It's such a wholesome book in its own way--Not in terms of idealism or subject matter, but in the wonderfully deliberate way of writing about Buck and his adventures. There's a straightforwardness and sense of honesty that's very admirable, and that London only achieved glimmers of in his other human-centric books (such as Martin Eden).

Reliving the glory.

A memoir about the awful institution of slavery, told with keen observation. Very good so far.

The terrific way they're setting up for Book 3 :)

Reads like Game of Thrones but better.

Someone once referred to the Hungarian writer György Dragomán's books as "political gothic." Well I'm excited to announce that "Kingdoms in Peril" is yet another political gothic, published thousands of years before Dragomán ever walked this Earth. Very good so far!

Enjoying this a lot so far. Started it last year, took a big break from it, then picked it up in February and have been reading it ever since.
