hyped to be finallyyyy reading this. hoping it doesn't suck me in to the rest of the lord of the rings (top 10 phrases I say before becoming utterly obsessed with something)

Chapter 6 (What it's like to be an Internalizer) was painful to get through lmao. Just absolutely coddling and victimizing the reader while villainizing everyone else. Hoping the next chapter actually provides some sort of useful tools but my opinion of this book is plummeting lol.

First half of this book was outlining and defining specific behaviors of emotionally immature ppl and how those behaviors can affect children. Not necessarily anything I didn't already know, aside from a few connections drawn that contextualized some things for me. Def a lot of good info so far tho. Second half may be more useful as it covers ways to mitigate any lasting damage done to the reader

Whew even just the preface of this was heavyyy. I am extremely intrigued but this one might have to be read in small doses so I don't get too depressed lol

Almost put this book down when the trans mc basically implied that she feels her emotions more strongly now that she has primarily estrogen hormones instead of testosterone.. I thought we debunked the whole "women are more emotional CHEMICALLY" thing ages ago bruh. left a horrible taste in my mouth

This is clearly a metaphor for the american civil rights movement but something about the way its written/marketed as a "cozy dystopian sci fi" is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Feels almost tacky or like it downplays the struggles of racism and oppression that human beings actually experienced in real life lol. like why are you writing about the jim crow laws for robots.

Love that California is a separate nation from America in this setting lol. need that badly

My hot take is that I genuinely do not care for fighting/action sequences in books. Maybe I just don't like Sanderson's style specifically but I also cant remember the last "action" book I read that had a detailed play-by-play of a fight scene that I actually enjoyed. It so annoying to try and follow along to all that
