Decided to stop reading because I got bored… I feel like the narrative was way drawn out. While this is a really interesting concept for a novel—a widow who sets out to write / correct a biography about her dead artist wife who is this super mysterious girl against the background of a fictionalized disunification and reunification of the US, it was just sort of flat and uninteresting🥲

“all the milk flooding wildly over the rolling hills and out of the sun's comical eyes. Not tears but creamy drops of mammalian weather.”

Her conversation with Bjork is so freaking interesting. Bjork writes to Maggie (only in verse, might I add):
“no philosopher is doing what you are doing (if so can you please tell me their names!) perhaps in the future we don't need them like we did, rather we need someone like you who collects the writings of our species, merges it and distills it into a human form adding diaries and emotional responsibility”

“The lights go by but the people don’t. Standing above me and around me I see how we are all the same, that none of us are white women or black men; rather, we’re a series of mouths, and that every mouth needs filling: with something wet or dry, like love, or unfamiliar and savory, like love.”
