Finally continuing the 'Miscellaneous Papers' after a break of nearly five years.. 😅

The final stretch before the finish!

I'm attempting to finish this one after taking a small break from it, but I'm still not quite convinced.

I'm enjoying it and all that, but how did we go from
p. 22: "Immy had recently had her blonde hair cut into a short bob in purposeful defiance of her soon to be mother-in-law"
to
p.190: "Immy looked at herself in the full-length mirror, her hair cascading down her back in an elaborate plait, fresh flowers woven into the braid."

Over halfway, but I'm not really feeling the tension yet.

To be honest, unintentionally skimming this one. The writing is too floral and poetic for my taste. My mind often wanders off and I'm only getting vague impressions, not really retaining much.

Naming a newborn baby 'Rylee' after the mother's brother, Ryle? What in the Renesmee is this?

I'm greatly enjoying this. It's good to be finally getting around to it after having it on my radar since somewhere near the end of secondary school.

I started out with a fondness for Mary, but in these final pages I am liking this rendition of her less and less. The miscommunication and irrational choices are irksome.

I got this thinking it was a fictional book about a fictional poem, only to discover it's a memoir about an actual poem. I guess the 'Foyles Non-fiction Book of the Year' should've tipped me off, but here we are..
