The book is methodologically a combination of reader response theory but more of the Mailloux variety. There is also a nod, methodologically, to Lester Olson's notion of rhetorical recirculation. The Intro and subsequent chapters were comprehensive and relatively easy to read. However, it was Rushdy's opening comparison of Byrd's last day to that of the men who lynched him where my difficult to read began
