"But there is one thing I feel you should know, Ralph, before you take your theory any further: I am Lono."

What kind of sick instinct would cause eight thousand supposedly smart people to get up at four in the morning and stagger at high speed through the streets of Waikiki for 26 ball-busting miles in a race that less than a dozen of them have the slightest chance of winning?

“Liberal bigots are the ones who trouble me most. I distrust the extremes. Scratch a conservative and you find someone who prefers the past over any future. Scratch a liberal and find a closet aristocrat. It’s true! Liberal governments always develop into aristocracies. The bureaucracies betray the true intent of people who form such governments.”

“What do you do when the Worm approaches?”
“I leave”
“That’s prudent. He has killed nine Duncan Idahos we know about for sure.
“I tell you he kills no one!”
“What’s the difference? Leto or Worm, they are one body now.”
“But they are two separate beings- Leto the Emperor and The Worm Who Is God.”
“You’re mad!”
“Perhaps. But I do serve God.”

“He hadn’t had much experience with the rich and powerful. Coopers didn’t, as a rule. It wasn’t that they were less prone to committing crimes, it was just that the crimes they committed tended to be so far above the normal level of criminality that they were beyond the reach of men with bad boots and rusting mail. Owning a hundred slum properties wasn’t a crime, although living in one was, almost.”

“Thats where people get it wrong. Individuals aren’t naturally paid-up member of the human race, except biologically. They need to be bounced around by the Brownian motion of society, which is a mechanism by which human beings constantly remind one another that they are… well… human beings.”

"I'll see you around Lude," I mumbled.
"Get rid of it Hoss, it's killing you."
Then he tossed me his lighter and padded away, the dim light quickly transforming him into a shadow, then a sound, and finally a silence/
Maybe he was right.
Fly from the path.

"But the old man is not there, and the cats are all gone.
Something else has taken their place. Something I am unable to see. Waiting.
I'm afraid.
It is hungry. It is immortal.

Worse, it knows nothing of whim."

I read volumes 1-3 in a single book so my review is going to be spoiler free and the same for all.

I've been wanting something fresh and heard great things about this series, and I was BLOWN AWAY at the story, character building, and action. I am so ready to read all of this.

Also, Louis Armstrong is a little freak I love him so much

He thought of the Water Sellers, their way destroyed by the lavish dispensing from his hands. They hated him. He'd slain the past. And there were others, even those who'd fought for the sols to buy precious water, who hated him for changing the old ways.

'He doesn't like wizards and witches much,' Mort Volunteered.
'Nobody likes a smartass,' she said with some satisfaction. 'We give him trouble, you see. Priests don't, so he likes priests.'
'He's never said,' said Mort.
'Ah. They're always telling folk how much better it's going to be when they're dead. We tell them it could be pretty good right here if only they'd put their minds to it.'

"Do you know what happens to lads who ask too many questions?'
Mort thought for a moment.
'No' he said eventually, 'what?'
'There was silence.
'Then Albert straightened up and said, 'Damned if I know. Probably they get answers, and serve 'em right."

The night was muggy, and all around me I felt the same pressure, a sense of time rushing by while it deemed to be standing still. Whenever I thought of Puerto Rico, I was reminded of those old magnetic clocks that hung on the walls of my classrooms in high school. Every now and then a hand would not move got several minutes… the sudden click of the hand jumping three or four notches would startle me when it came

“Don’t love you no more”
“Right back at you”
“Divorce your ass.”
“Suits me.”
“Except now what about the doublewide.”
“I get the truck is all I know.”
“You’re saying I get the doublewide you get the truck.”
“All I’m saying is that truck out there’s mine”
“Then what about the boy.”
“For the truck you mean?”
“You mean you want him?”
“You mean otherwise?”

He left her again Waterloo Station. A gala crowd was there, to see Fred Roper’s Company of Wonder Midgets off to an imperial fair in Johannesburg, South Africa… Scorpia’s talc-white face, through the last window, across the last gate, was a blow to his heart. A flurry of giggles and best wishes from the Wonder Midgets and their admirers. Well, thought Pirate, I guess I’ll go back in the Army…

For the first three years, the young wife was worried that their lovemaking together was somehow hard on his thingie.
