this book feels like it flies through what should be complex things and yet it’s still so long

1. why are 90% of dark academia books magical?? i’m not the biggest fantasy fans and yet i’m constantly reading it
2. i fear she’s written as a typical female main character who is thrown into something she doesn’t know but *gasp* she’s already the best at it ever!?

bowies not coming off great in some of these stories… don’t read about your heroes i guess

it’s been interesting so far to hear the crazy beliefs there used to be and see how some have evolved while others died off. but a lot of the chapters feel like they end with the feeling that “this still exists, and can’t be fixed until the whole system changes” or “this thing they thought couldn’t be solved in fact can can” but then not tell you how. just need a bit more follow through

this book and some of the history is pulls in is an insane reminder of how sexist sexism truly used to be, like just inane
