I may re-read this just to see how many times the words optimized or unoptimized are in this book because it’s gotta be about 80+. So much repetition

“"Three hundred twelve direct inquiries in the last hour. People asking how to reach the Surface. Asking if there are others. Asking how to join."”
But it’s been…. What?

The timing is off right now. Maya just broadcasted her truth- what she’s seen and felt beyond the feed- right after Voss told her that her time to broadcast would be limited. Mere moments later, people are making content explaining it away while a smaller percentage of others are refusing sleepsync, making real food… Voss speculating they remember what it’s like to dream and eat…

“You’ll get used to it. Or you won’t.” But use it less, maybe? Would’ve been more meaningful of a statement. So far that’s been said 2… maybe 3 times in the last chapter and a half. If that?

… I’m really trying not to DNF this

This book was 100% not supposed to be an audiobook simply because of this second story in the anthology. And the “if you’re reading this out loud, do _________” would be much funnier to read. If they were funny. I may skip to the next story

I am not enjoying this as much as I thought I would. I have to read a lot of my books on audio because my 15 month old is clingy as heck and I got to the second short story and nothing makes sense really. It feels like this was definitely not truly meant for an audiobook.

After finishing the first story, I was so confused because what do you mean we don’t learn the reason behind the green ribbon? And then I got it. The husband wants to know so bad and her son sees it as just another part of her. We’re not supposed to know. It’s just a ribbon, she’s just a woman. It’s just a part of her. That was a brilliant way to illustrate the point.

I already have so many thoughts on this book. Not sure if it’s good or bad so far, but I’m taking notes. My review will have spoilers, but they may not be specific. TBD.

Disclaimer: I know that the author is proving a point about sexism and racism; and the place they still hold in society today, but I’m HEATED
