Not really feeling this. I don't know why this was my mother's favorite book.

Say what!? I'm too through with Chevalier.

The pacing of this novel is so quick that I am swept away just as Chevalier was, but the scant reminders that he is retelling this tale to someone is like a bucket of ice water on the head when I come across it and makes me question everything.

Manon has run off with another man...again. I'm kind of afraid to read on because Chevalier has promised death to her, new her lover, and then himself. Yikes!

des Greuix is a fool. Manon is shrewd. This can not end well.

Well, that was kind of anticlimactic... I hope we get so see Maximilian suffer.

I'm bored with all the back and forth, flashbacks, and soap opera-like melodrama. I do like the added threat, though, and hope that isn't truly resolved.

With Mynx's success, couldn't she hire an editor or gone over this a little more closely? Just like the last book, this one is riddled with the same, repetitive eyesores: could care less (means you care a little), reign in emotions (who's crowning feelings?), teeth set on edge, etc. It just reads sloppy, and that's disappointing because she's a good storyteller.

Kind of a weird start. By chapter 8, there's finally some content I could use although I don't agree with some of the advice. Very short chapters, though. A quick read.

Block's candor is refreshing, and the personal reflections on his journey -- what he's done wrong and what he's done right -- make learning fun. It's like hanging out with a loose-lipped relative that always tells the truth--to the pain. You'll find yourself somewhere in these pages.

Just finished chp8, which is about reading to be a better writer and writing to be a better reader. My note says "this is life." Yep

I am totally digging this. It's simply and funny and sexy and corny, but so much fun!

With the movie coming out in a couple of months, I thought I'd give Zane a try. This won't be the last bad decision I make... I don't want to keep reading--I hate everyone in this foolish book--but I need to see for myself how her Zoe's lies unfold. I'll take my time, though.

This is my first Koko Brown book, and I'm enjoying the setting. The language is a bit off-putting after reading contemporary novels, but there's an authenticity there I definitely can appreciate.

I'm digging this (shocker!). Kinda bored with all the sex-making, though. This would be a just as engaging read if all the boots knocking was trimmed down a bit, but I am rooting for Flynn and Gia. After the disaster my last read was, I was on guard about the main characters in 'Sunday'. It helps tremendously that they are aware of how close they are toeing the line. That consciousness kept me from putting this book down in chapter 2. The tension between Flynn and Gia is thick, and I actually like both of them. Reading on..

Meh.

I haven't had a tougher time getting into a book since 'Cosmoplis.' There are so many words and not a lot being said. The tense changes and lack of commas, inconsistent characters, and almost too conversational narrative make this a frustrating read. I will keep reading in hope that the story will overshadow the issues I have with the delivery.

As an editor, it's tough to find books I can read simply for pleasure. I hoped I could get lost in 'Dangerous Beauty'. I really want to like this book. The highs and lows of this book have me feeling exactly like the narrator, Theo, in his drug-induced mania. I usually don't usually like 1st person POV, but this is such a visceral narration that I can't help but get absorbed in the experience--I need a dramamine.

This book is beautifully written and filled with poetic verse upon poetic verse. It's almost like a song. I find myself pausing and rereading a line and saying to myself, 'That's a dope line.' But... I find that I'm not really enjoying this book. It isn't a riveting read, it's more of a race to the finish after a painfully slow start. It's a good story, memorable, fanciful, and frustrating. I was thisclose to quitting this book during the first chapter. I started reading with no idea what the book was about. The opening piqued my curiosity then started talking about past events. *groan* Did some research to learn more of the story. Curiosity has won a out again. Despite the length, events after that first chapter have sped along. This is an incredibly engaging story.
