such a slow burn and I cant help but wonder if the fact that the book takes place on a planet covered in ice is the cause

I had the same reaction when the author added a woman and child to help the MC. The woman has problems but the child is the bane of my existence. I cannot stand the smart, reasonable child cliche because children are not smart nor reasonable, and that's okay!! because they have other endearing attributes like their very existence being precious. Please stop before I implode

This book vexes me so, much like in my relationship with The Old Man i find myself irrationally angry.

I have seldom up to this point understood the importance of setting or location. For example this story partly takes place in Switzerland and Italy and as I have been to those places I feel a much stronger connection to the story. Id imagine that the closer you are to the setting of the story the stronger the connection which also means that you must think about the target audience... *pondering noises*

Join me on my quest to learn what a good story consists of by reading good stories, thus far it seems a story is usually the better for having pets, they add a sort of secondary life to the background like the sleeping kitten or Fortinbras.

hmhmhm, I simply wanted to learn more about my favorite video game like any other 20s something delinquent, but no, I had to learn of this mysterious Russian immigrant that has been pulling my family's strings since the 1960s. Now for the sake of my family and friends I will need to delve into the world of this "Atlas" and his brother "Fountainhead"....
