Rich, multifaceted Midrash on Moses.

This is a rich, detailed history of the French Revolution that exposes the abuse and undermining of Enlightenment ideas and ideals.

An important aspect of the Enlightenment involves the development of cosmopolitanism and nationalism with the emergence of patriotism. The linguistic emergence of patriotism from the development of nationalism is almost too obvious. Professor Pagden is especially helpful in his highly lucid account.

The polymath Alexander von Humboldt created the notion of an integrated cosmos—nature—without resorting to God. He saw our world as interconnected in complex webs of understanding. Further, he saw how human beings alter and denigrate this world in which we destroy the very nature from which we emerged and on which we depend for existence.
